MONTADO is a unique and delicate treasure of biological diversity, qualified by environmental organizations as one of the 35 global biodiversity hotspots in pair with some natural resources like Andes, Borneo, Amazonia and Africa. In addition to provide soil conservation, regulation of the water cycle and protection against wind erosion and fire, MONTADO is the home for more than 160 poultries species, 24 reptiles and amphibians and 37 mammals, some of them endangered.

Due to their potential economic value, MONTADO can be crucial in forming forest areas that can act as a barrier against desertification. Meanwhile, they also act as a carbon sinks, and can help mitigate the effects of greenhouse gas emission.
